Almost 9000 Children Who Need Special Education Aren’t Getting Any

Approximately 9000 children who require special education are not receiving one. According to information obtained by ITY News, thousands of children in England, Wales, and Scotland who have additional special needs are not receiving a good education. Many of them are not even accepted into a school, which means they are missing months or even years of learning.

It now impacts pupils who have an education health care plan or EHCP. Local authorities use EHCPs to describe the extra help that children require, but there aren’t many special schools in some areas. One parent told us that attending one would be like winning the lottery.

According to ITY News, many of them say that the support system isn’t just failing them; it’s not functioning at all, even if they are succeeding in getting their child enrolled.

Quddus who is only six years old hasn’t attended school in nearly two years. His standard school said it could not meet his needs since he has autism.

He can attend a specialist school, but it’s too far away, and Quddus’s mother Dare Olaifa-oyeniyi says she wasn’t providing the extra help they had been promised.

Therefore, each time I went to the council, they kept on sending me back and telling me that the council wasn’t paying it.

I was becoming really angry and furious because he wasn’t receiving therapy and they couldn’t get him to learn, which meant he wasn’t developing his speech still. The council would tell me this every time I went to them.

Since the council has won its appeal and there is currently nowhere else to go, quddus is falling behind in the conference, I reasoned that perhaps this was the incorrect environment and that I might find another one for him.

My concern and fear are about what will ultimately happen to my child, why we are not being heard, why we are blocked, and why he isn’t receiving what everyone else has, which is a fundamental right that he refuses to acknowledge.

quddus has an Education Health and Care plan, or EHCP, which is a legal document that defines the extra support a child needs up until the age of 25.

According to exclusive data obtained by ITV News, Approximately 9000 children who require special education and 5,254 children in England and Wales with an EHCP do not even have a school place, and 8,660 children in Wales and Scotland with an EHCP do not receive any formal education at all.

Bob is nine years old, she hasn’t attended a regular school for seventeen months, and your job is essentially to take care of the animals rather than learn.

She has autism; therefore, she is on her way to farm school, an alternate option that meets once a week, but she needs a spot at a specialized school.

When do you think she will be in school?

Bob’s mother Tesse Elliott Hoogstraten says, although there are a few schools that I would like Bob to attend and that I know he would do very well there, I know that this is like winning the lottery because there are not enough spaces. If they think they can’t meet, then they will say no, and then we’re back to square one and I won’t know what to do.

This is how English is taught in one of the biggest special schools in the nation. While it may seem like a typical classroom, the teachers are trained in neuron diverse teaching methods.

What do you notice?

Some of these pupils travel more than an hour to get here, and more than half of them have an EHCP.

According to Jonathan Hetherington, the headmaster of the More House school explains that they don’t work with students one-on-one, offer assistance in the classroom, or pull them out of regular classes to provide specialized support; instead, we work with groups of 14 to 15 students who have been classified with special education needs.

However, thousands of kids with autism, ADHD, and OCD like Sunny are also waiting to be evaluated. Sunny finds it difficult to attend a regular school.

What made you decide not to attend school today?

sunny said that even in classes, I never really learn anything because the teaching is just not that good. I never really learned anything in school courses.

According to Sunny’s mother, Kirsti Hadley says that he is stuck in the system. I did seek a three-day workweek schedule, but it was rejected. Instead, I was informed that Sunny needed to work five days a week, fail at that, and then we would be given a three-day week.

How would one ever begin to solve this problem?

Kiristi said that they desperately need more specialized schools, financing, teacher preparation, fewer class sizes, and an overhaul of the entire system.

However, life is difficult enough for families of children with special needs; they don’t need to worry about an unfriendly support system on top of it.

It’s evident how frustrated and upset these parents are, and you wonder what measures, if any, are being taken to truly solve this problem.

More than 500,000 children in England alone have an EHCP, and the number is increasing annually.

Councils are aware of the problem, which is expensive, in part because we are becoming more adept at identifying children who require additional support in schools.

However, the system hasn’t kept up with the consumer confidence.

The government released its strategy last year, aiming to establish a national standard so that postcode variances are eliminated, but it is unlikely that this will be implemented until maybe next year.

We are aware that there will be a general election soon, but in the meantime, there are actual children nationwide who are on waiting lists; their childhoods are being lost to them without proper education, and that is the knowledge they will never be able to regain. Yes, it’s really bad.

  1. obviously like your web-site but you need to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to inform the reality on the other hand I’ll certainly come back again.
