UNIUYO Unveils Top-up Degree and HND Conversion Programme for 2026/2027

If you have been worried about your class of degree or looking for a way to upgrade your Higher National Diploma (HND) to a full Bachelor’s degree, your worries are officially over. The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has recently introduced an impressive academic initiative. Through its School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (SCEPS), the university is officially inviting applications from qualified candidates for its Top-up Degree Programmes for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

UNIUYO Top-up Degree

This newly unveiled programme is specifically designed to help graduates who finished with a third-class or pass grade to “top up” their class of graduation. Furthermore, it provides a seamless pathway to equate an HND qualification directly to a university degree.

Here is a comprehensive breakdown of everything you need to know to take advantage of this massive opportunity.

Objectives of the UNIUYO Top-up Degree Programme

The management of UNIUYO designed this B.Sc/B.Eng/B.A/B.Ed/HND conversion program with very clear, highly beneficial objectives:

  • Grade Upgrading: It strongly encourages Third Class Degree holders to upgrade and acquire at least a Second Class Degree, opening up much more viable opportunities for them in the highly competitive labour market.
  • HND to Degree Conversion: It provides a highly suitable academic pathway that seamlessly facilitates the direct conversion from an HND Certificate to a First Degree.
  • Promoting Equality: The programme aims to create a highly enabling academic environment to ensure degree equality across the country.
  • Career Advancement: It is strategically structured to facilitate the career progression of degree holders who might have been stagnant due to their graduation class.
  • Manpower Development: The university seeks to provide massive opportunities for manpower development to actively meet the demands of emerging and technological work environments.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements

To gain admission into this career-saving programme, candidates must strictly meet the following entry requirements:

  • Programme Alignment: Candidates must apply for admission strictly into the exact same programme they originally graduated from.
  • University Graduates: University graduates applying must hold a minimum of a Third Class or Pass Degree from any National Universities Commission (NUC) approved university.
  • Polytechnic Graduates: HND graduates must possess Merit and Upper Credits from any approved Polytechnic.
  • O’Level Requirements: Every applicant must possess a minimum of five (5) O’Level credits in relevant subjects, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings. Crucially, credits in both English Language and Mathematics are strictly compulsory.
  • NYSC Certification: You must present a valid NYSC Discharge Certificate, an Exemption Certificate, or a Letter of Exclusion to be considered for admission.
  • Documentation: Candidates are required to submit their application forms alongside the official academic transcripts from the very last institution they attended.

Programme Duration and Expected Timelines

UNIUYO Top-up Degree

The time you will spend in this programme is heavily dependent on your previous academic performance:

  • One Academic Session (Two Semesters): This fast-tracked duration is specifically for applicants holding a Third Class Degree, as well as those with HND Upper and Lower Credits, based on their CGPA.
  • Two Academic Sessions (Four Semesters): If you are applying with a Pass Degree or an HND Pass, your programme will run for a full two academic sessions.

Take note: The university strictly warns that any extension beyond your stipulated duration will automatically attract the full payment of tuition fees.

Official Application Cost and JAMB Regularization

Applying for the UNIUYO SCEPS programmes involves specific financial commitments. First, all candidates must register via the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Candidates should visit the JAMB e-facility portal, click on the Part-time Registration Link, and proceed to make a payment of Thirty-five thousand Naira (N35,000.00) only via Remita.
